SOUTHWEST ROOTS MUSIC PRESENTS

ROSIE LEDET

& THE ZYDECO PLAYBOYS

Like so many French kids raised in rural Louisiana, accordionist, singer and songwriter Mary Roszela Bellard "Rosie" Ledet (pronounced led-dett), paid no particular attention to the zydeco music that was all around her in her formative years. But, at age 16, she heard Boozoo Chavis at a zydeco dance, and her fate was sealed. Ledet, who is now widely considered the reigning queen of zydeco, provides a unique female presence in the male-dominated zydeco world. Her self-penned tunes, sung beautifully in Creole French and in English, are often often sly and lusty. She has released seven albums of her own material on the Maison de Soul label, with one of Louisiana's most smokin' backing bands. The Zydeco Playboys began performing in 1994 throughout the Texas-Louisiana triangle and gradually spread their touring base to include the rest of the U.S., including her first stop at the Thirsty Ear Festival in 2007. Bring your dancing shoes. www.myspace.com/rosieledet   www.thirstyearfestival.com

FELONIOUS GROOVE

FOUNDATION

N.M.'s premier retro-funk contingent incorporates Latin, hip-hop and jazz resulting in a party oriented, high-octane, unforgettable musical experience. Award winning songwriting, chicken-scratch guitars and turntables, slap bass, 70's breakbeats and punchy saxophones are F.G.F. Felonious Groove Foundation was formed in 2000 by Cali Soberanes and Todd Lovato. The two had played music together in high school and would often sneak into 21 and over bars to participate in Santa Fe local open mic sessions. They decided to start the band shortly after moving to Albuquerque to attend the University of New Mexico. F.G.F quickly made it's mark on the scene by winning several "battle-of-the-bands" and relentlessly touring the local club circut. Influenced heavily by the 70s funk era, Latin rhythms and urban hip-hop, Felonious Groove Foundation quickly became a local favorite, headlining many of the southwest areas largest festivals. The band has also had the opportunity to share the stage with Arrested Development, Fishbone, The Dirty Dozen Brass Band, Los Mocosos and the B- Side Players. Made up of six young men in their early and mid twenties, FGF was nominated for seven awards at the 2004 New Mexico Music Industry Awards; the regions most prestigious recognition for the musical arts. Awarded for best Hip-hop production, the band continues to shake local night clubs into the wee hours of the night. Recently Lovato and Soberanes wrapped up production on the band' s Third Albulm "Paper Tiger", Scheduled for release this fall under Penguino Records. With an already large and diverse fan base Felonious Groove Foundation is poised to make a lasting impact on the music industry.  www.myspace.com/feloniousgroovefoundation

CELEBRATE VALENTINE'S DAY WITH YOUR SWEETIE &

BRUCE ROBISON

"Texas songwriter" is one of those job descriptions - like "French chef" or "Kenyan runner" - that packs a lot of implied historical weight. Any occupational title that invites immediate comparison to Guy Clark, Kris Kristofferson, Lyle Lovett, and Willie Nelson is not for the faint of heart. Real songwriters know that it’s not about how many units you move so much as whether people sing your songs to themselves when they’re alone. By either standard, Bruce Robison is among the first rank of Texas songwriters.

Bruce is also a prolific recording artist. For his eighth studio release, Bruce joins forces with Rodney Crowell to co-produce a collection of new classics reflecting the love and respect he has for the traditions of country music. In his clear-eyed, deeply felt songs, Bruce does what great songwriters have always done: he takes the reality that surrounds us every day and makes it new again. Faded, careworn lives turn out to be rich with meaning when looked at from a slightly different angle, if you’ll just take the time... and Robison takes the time. The results are heartbreaking, hilarious, sweet, and stirring, as his songs confirm after a single listen.

As a songwriter, Bruce's craft is admired by his peers and his creations have been covered by a variety of artists including Garth Brooks, Lee Ann Womack, Gary Allan, wife Kelly Willis, and brother Charlie Robison. Additionally Tim McGraw ("Angry All The Time"), The Dixie Chicks ("Travelin' Soldier"), and George Strait ("Wrapped") each achieved 1 status for their versions of his songs. Bruce Robison doesn’t require introductions anymore. He’s made himself heard in the hearts of people across the country.

Additionally, Bruce continues to churn out over 100 live shows each year. Whether performing in an auditorium or bar, Robison's captivating gigs have earned him a wide range of fans who appreciate his brand of honest-to-god Texas Country music.

But Robison's journey doesn't end with the relentless touring and songwriting - there's more. This year, Bruce takes on the independent world by self-releasing his latest single, "Born to Roll" to the Texas Country radio market. Fans and admirers can anticipate the full-length album, From The Top, in 2010.   www.brucerobison.com

What happens when two former members of a widely successful touring band step out from behind the instruments that made them famous and embark on an entirely new musical journey? The result is the left coast breakbeat/glitch-hop/house duo, EOTO (pronounced E-oh-toe). Consisting of one third of the progressive jam sextet, The String Cheese Incident, the joint venture between Jason Hann and Michael Travis is a fresh, 100% improvised collaboration of live instrumentation and digital mixing. The duo has eagerly taken to the road to deliver a totally inimitable and unforgettable live experience. PICK UP YOUR TICKETS FOR THIS GREAT SHOW TODAY AT THE PUB & GRILL at the SFBC, THE LENSIC BOX OFFICE 505.988.1234, or ORDER ONLINE AT: www.ticketssantafe.com

Performing in roles completely different than the ones in SCI, Jason Hann keeps the crowds moving. Covering percussion, layering eclectic-glitchy samples, live auxiliary re-mixing, as well as the playing drum kit, Hann provides the rhythmic backbone for all things EOTO. Adding both blissful and edgy, tonal ambience is the multi-talented Michael Travis." Blending bass, guitar, keyboards and hand percussion, as well as live mixing and re-mixing, Travis creates the spacey flavor capturing the listener’s senses. With the raw power of live drums, the music is all created on the spot, recorded, and remixed live, proving no two shows are exactly alike. While completely different from SCI, life-long fans as well as new fans will be drawn to the dance frenzy and originality that is EOTO.

In the world of EOTO, nothing is pre-recorded, nothing is pre-looped and no sets are pre-planned. Each show transports the listener to a different time and a different place providing a unique sonic dance experience night in and night out. Merging hypnotic rhythms with pounding bass and mesmerizing melodies, Hann and Travis unleash their sonic assault on the masses in an unrehearsed, unscripted manner. Drawing comparisons to renowned artists such as the Beastie Boys, EOTO is at the forefront of a musical movement. Inspired by legendary DJ’s and mix artists of the world, the duo utilizes cutting-edge technology combined with live instrumental performances to create truly original and melodic dance music in the moment.

Jason Hann and Michael Travis will continue their inspiration to evolve beats, breaks, and soundscapes designed to keep the audiences grooving all night long. Crowds looking for a mind bending, ear-opening experience unlike any other touring band on the road today will appreciate the shear spontaneity and originality that is EOTO.

MATT HIRES

When you listen to Matt Hires, what comes across is the sound of an artist self-assured, authentic, and at ease with being completely and utterly himself. On his debut F-Stop/ Atlantic release, Take Us To The Start, the 23-year-old Florida native fuses the intimacy of the great singer/songwriters with indelible pop/rock hooks and propulsive rhythms. The result is a mesmerizing collection of songs that are immediately enchanting, while becoming more deeply rewarding with each listen.

 JASON CASTRO

With his warm, evocative vocals and distinctive charisma, Jason Castro has already earned bountiful acclaim and a fervent fan following. The Texas-based tunesmith – best known as the third runner-up on the 2008 season of Fox’s American Idol – is now hard at work on his hugely anticipated debut album, set for release on Atlantic Records later this year. Among Castro’s creative collaborators are Grammy Award winning producer John Fields (Lifehouse, Switchfoot, Soul Asylum) and such acclaimed songwriters as Kara DioGuardi (Kelly Clarkson, Jewel, Santana), Martin Terefe (Jason Mraz, KT Tunstall), Sacha Skarbek (James Blunt, Jason Mraz), Guy Chambers (Robbie Williams) and Jason Reeves (Colbie Caillat). A multi-talented singer and guitarist, Jason was among the most popular and talented artists in American Idol history, entering the record books as the first contestant to play an instrument on the show. His performance of the Leonard Cohen-penned classic "Hallelujah" proved such an audience favorite that the late, great Jeff Buckley’s rendition of the song hit 1 on the iTunes chart the following week, selling an astonishing 178,000 digital singles. Jason scored a chart-topping single of his own a few weeks later with his interpretation of "Somewhere Over The Rainbow," which also hit 1 on iTunes after a show-stopping performance of the song on American Idol. Upon the season’s conclusion, Castro was among the stars of the hugely successful "American Idols LIVE! Tour 2008."

BILL HEARNE'S

ROADHOUSE REVUE

Honkytonks, roadhouses, empty whiskey glasses, unrequited love are the brick and mortar of country music and there isn't a better mason than Bill Hearne. Dallas born Bill Hearne finds his way into a song's interior with a baritone as mellow as bourbon and smoky as a Texas pool hall and a picking style that satisfies both your feet and heart. At its best, country music is elegiac, a meat and potatoes campfire poem about heartbreak and redemption. It's about truth, the kind that hurts and the kind that heals. In lesser hands, it's also a cliché. A broken man in faded-jeans on a barstool. A Dear John letter fluttering in the hot Texas wind. A train song and an empty bed. Bill never lets this potent iconography off the hook. Whether burning through a roadhouse number or staggering through the valley of heartaches, Bill never lies. He feels it, and so do we. The new Bill Hearne CD, "A Good Ride" will be available at the Pub & Grill at the SFBC. The new CD was recorded at Don Richmond's Howlin' Dog Studio in Alamosa Colorado, along with two tracks recorded here at Frogville Studio in Santa Fe. www.billhearne.com

TREVOR HALL

Greetings. My name is Trevor. I play music…and love doing it. It has been a wonderful teacher, friend, and companion over the years. This is the part where I tell you a little about my life… so far. I grew up in South Carolina until the age of 16. I had a wonderful childhood, a great family, and good friends. I started playing music fairly young. My dad was a drummer and a musician himself. I guess I got some of his genes. Every day after school, I would come home, pick up my guitar, and write songs for a couple hours. It was my favorite time of the whole day. I began playing for my parents, who supported me to the fullest. For my 15th or 16th birthday, my dad got me some time in his friend's recording studio. I made my first record, which was mostly sold to my friends and family. It was at that time when my family and I started taking the music more seriously.

In 10th grade, I was very fortunate to have traveled to California to attend Idyllwild School for the Arts, an international boarding school east of Los Angeles. My time there was some of the best years of my life. I studied classical guitar and met many wonderful people from around the world who greatly influenced my life in a profound way. My greatest lesson there was observing how art spoke to everyone…no matter what race, what faith, or what country you were from. I saw how it brought people together, and that made me feel good.

In my senior year of high school, I signed a record deal with Geffen Records. After graduation, I moved to LA to give my music full attention. I was very blessed to have worked with great producers such as John Alagia (John Mayer, Jason Mraz, Dave Matthews) and The Laboriel Brothers (Sting, Paul Mccartney). Unfortunately, other than an EP, none of the records I made with Geffen ever came out. They dropped me from the label in 2008. But that didn't deter me. I picked up my guitar, wrote 14 new songs, and recorded an acoustic album with my good friend/percussionist Chris Steele. We have named that album "This is Blue." It was a wonderful, liberating experience. I feel very lucky to still have the opportunity to create music with good friends and people.

Over the years, I have toured and played with wonderful acts such as Steel Pulse, The Wailers, Matisyahu, Stevie Nicks, Ben Harper, Colbie Caillat, Los Lobos, Ziggy Marley, Rusted Root, and many others. It has been such a blessing to cross paths with so many beautiful people and wonderful musicians. They all have influenced me so much.

My favorite part of the whole thing thus far is meeting new people on the road. It is funny how people come together, connect, and establish friendships. I never knew that I would have friends in Peoria, Illinois or Vail, Colorado. Through music, we have all been able to come together, share our ideas and love, and then move on. I cannot express how thankful I am to all the fans who have supported me over the years. I have truly greatly enjoyed meeting all of you. I hope we get to cross paths again soon.

Thanks for taking the time to read a little bit about my journey. I hope that your travels are going smoothly and unfolding nicely. Until we meet again; So much love, Trevor www.myspace.com/trevorhall

KIM & THE CABALLEROS

Kim says: “My mom force fed old country (we’re talkin’ Loretta, Cash, Waylon, Willie and the boys) to me at an early age, and I rebelled, first playing bass in an 80s rock band, “The Bohiems”, later becoming a folkie, still leaning in the rock genre, but mostly writing tortured love songs and political/social stuff in the band “Burning Joan.” For giggles, in 2003 I recorded a bastardized version of “Blue Eyes Cryin’ in the Rain” for my mom’s birthday, and it all took off from there. I realized my roots had caught up to me and I liked it. We recordered the CD Blue Hearted Girl at Howlin’ Dog Studios in Alamosa, Co. and in Nashville. I live in Taos, New Mexico with my children; work with homeless youth at the DreamTree Project; garden; ride my horse, Nugget, up in the mountains (just like the song says); and sing big ‘ol twangy country every chance I get.”

FRONTIER RUCKUS

LYRICAL INDIE FOLK ROCK FROM MICHIGAN

Frontier Ruckus is most usually in a perpetual state of waiting—limbo. This is an enormous place to be; it is seen clearly in the modern space of the "dead mall." It's like this, buildings and towns and counties are containers that gradually show the glowing life or death of the things within them. The existence of locality, and the connection of all the spaces or people you engulf via bodies and via breath, that expansiveness of breath, is where Frontier Ruckus resides, and it is past that county-line-frontier where knowledge and affection blur into nothing. Every space/place/winter gas station lot/anonymous-dim-white-metal-highwayside-dome/etc. that you've known and eye-gulped compulsively throughout a lifetime is a container of memory and affect, and the faces of these places, these containers, are slowly exhibiting explicit portrayals of that which they hold—body and breath and horrible nighttime cosmos. When Frontier Ruckus is in song, the dynamism throatily throttles out of idle and the container spills all of its fluid out onto the bashful and awful hands of anything that does the pumping. www.myspace.com/frontierruckus

SANTA FE BLUES

 T MODEL FORD

SOUL KITCHEN PLUS MANY OTHER FINE ACTS TBA

T-Model's credentials are impeccable; if anything he's over qualified. He was born James Lewis Carter Ford in Forrest, a small community in Scott County, Mississippi. T-Model thinks he's seventy-five but isn't sure. He was plowing a field behind a mule on his family's farm by age eleven, and in his early teens he secured a job at a local sawmill. He excelled and was later recruited by a foreman from a bigger lumber company in the Delta, near Greenville, and eventually got promoted to truck driver. During the time he spent driving and working in a log camp, T-Model ran into trouble, and was eventually sentenced to ten years on a chain-gang for murder. He lucked out and was released after serving two. He says, grinning, "I could really stomp some ass back then, stomp it good. I was a-sure-enough dangerous man." When asked how many times he'd been to jail, T-Model responded, "I don't know. How many?" He seemed to think it might be a trick question. Upon realizing it wasn't, he answered to the best of his ability. "Every Saturday night there for awhile." As disheartening as this is, it's also a refreshing reminder of how ridiculous the present image of a bluesman is. Nothing could be more twisted than the romanticized and picturesque standard...an old black man devoid of anger and rage happily strumming an acoustic guitar on the back porch of his shack "in that evening sun". T-Model couldn't be further from this fabricated image. At 3/4 of a century old and with a dislocated hip, hes still cussing, fighting, and outdrinking men a quarter his age. Spam to his friends,Tommy Lee Miles to the authorities, he has been T-Model's A-number-one drummer for the past eight years. T-Model and Spam are the only men still playing on Greenville's Nelson Street. Most of the audience has scattered due to violence from the crack trade, and with the exception of T-Model, the street that once boasted Booba Barnes and others is dead. On a typical night Spam and T-Model will arrive at the club and unpack T-Model's guitar and amp, and the bass drum and snare he allows Spam to use. When T-Model feels there are enough people, they start banging away in their own post-war Peavey-powered hill stomp. It's nothing unusual for T-Model to play eight hours a night. They keep going until no one's left standing. After his equipment's packed up T-Model will coat himself with Off and climb into his van to crash. www.myspace.com/tmodelford  www.thirstyearfestival.com

THE CONSTELLATIONS

THE POSTELLES

Hockey is an American new wave band from Portland, Oregon that has been compared to The Strokes and LCD Soundsystem. They deal in retro dance anthems. The Constellations are an amorphous funk rock group out of Atlanta, GA that describes their sound as “a psychedelic soul-rock explosion.” Weaned on a healthy diet of equal parts sweet Motown sound and New York's grit and grime, The Postelles are in line to a long tradition of great pop music, at once sweetly constructed and achingly raw.

Remember when Rock n' Roll kicked ass? Triple Cobra does. No longer do you need to apologize for gaudy solos, karate kicks and stage splits. Audacity is the name of the game, and bravado knows no shame. The sexiest band in San Francisco sends epic melodies soaring over sumptuous riffs, relinquishing the mediocrity of life to the majesty of rock. This triumph of sound is matched only by the grandeur of performance. Dancers adorned in furs, feathers and fishnets shake and grind under a heroic light show overflowing with intrigue and innuendo. This sensual mix of drama and power, lust and longing, scorn and wit all unite to create an event erupting with radiant glamour and raw spectacle. Lock your doors and hide your daughters. Triple Cobra is ready to strike. www.myspace.com/triplecobra

Dr. Dog is a psychedelic rock group from Philadelphia that formed in 1999. “There’s a little folk, blues, indie rock, soul, bluegrass and a whole lot of down-home harmonizing. It conjures images of old friends sitting on a porch swapping instruments."  www.myspace.com/drdog

Deer Tick is a rock n roll band from Providence, RI. They have been labeled alt-country, and freak folk, which the band finds a little weird. Are things like "alt" and "freak" necessary to describe Deer Tick? Deer Tick doesn't think so. www.myspace.com/deertick
